Initial Visit

For kids and adults alike, the first visit to an orthodontic office can be intimidating. At Babb Orthodontics, we want you to feel comfortable and welcome from the moment you walk in. Here is what you can expect from your first visit with us:

Before Your Visit

Prior to your first visit, we will email you some simple paperwork to complete and bring in with you. You can also complete it in our office before you see Dr. Babb, but filling it out in advance will save you time when you get here.

We will ask for standard information like:

  • Your name, address and phone number

  • Insurance information (please bring your insurance card with you to the appointment so that we can check your benefits!)

  • Health and dental history

  • Your orthodontic treatment goals

Note: If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian will need to accompany you to your appointment.

Check In

When you arrive, head to the front desk and check in. If you didn’t fill out the paperwork in advance, we will give it to you to complete in the waiting room area.

In the meantime feel free to grab a complimentary coffee, tea, or water from our coffee bar.

Diagnostic Records

Once you’ve finished the paperwork, we’ll start your diagnostic records.  One of our team members will take you into the exam room and begin the appointment with a set of pictures of your smile and teeth. These pictures allow Dr. Babb to evaluate the balance of your lips, smile, and facial symmetry as well as profile. They also document your “Before” so that we can watch your smile progress!

Sometimes, it’s also necessary to take x-rays at the initial appointment. The x-rays allow us to evaluate the health and position of the teeth, roots, and jaws.  Dr. Babb will only ask for x-rays if it’s necessary for her to make decisions about your treatment.

Discussing Your Options

When your records are completed, Dr. Babb will take a few minutes to get to know you and your concerns. She’ll then do an exam that evaluates your face, lips, teeth, gums and bite.

After the exam, Dr. Babb will use the diagnostic pictures to discuss what is good about your teeth/bite, what can be improved upon, and the plan to make those improvements happen.

We’ll explain a variety of treatment options, and Dr. Babb will give her suggestion for the best option for you. We can also show you a model of the appliances so you can see and feel them in action.

Getting Started With Your Treatment

Generally, most new exams fall into 1 of 3 treatment categories:

1. You’re ready for treatment and can start at your earliest convenience!

2. You aren’t ready to start just yet, due to the presence of baby teeth or dental work that needs to be completed first.  If this is the case, Dr. Babb puts you on a recall to maintain appointments every 3-6 months until the timing is ideal for orthodontics.

3. You don’t need treatment at all! Some dental conditions are so minor that orthodontic treatment would not be beneficial.  If this applies to you, Dr. Babb will explain why you do not need treatment and what other options you may have.

Once all of your treatment questions have been answered, our treatment coordinator will discuss financial arrangements and our flexible payment options.

After your first appointment, you’ll know exactly how much everything will cost and how much your insurance will help to cover.  A lot of patients choose to stay and get started the same day!  If you’ve already taken time off of work or school we’d be happy to adjust our schedule so that you can start braces or the Invisalign process before you leave our office.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
